Troop 236 Endwell NY Troop 236

About Troop 236

Who We Are

  • We were founded in 1960, and are chartered by Northminster Presbyterian Church.
  • We are a Boy-Led Troop.
    • Our meetings and activities are planned by the Scouts at monthly Patrol Leaders Council meetings, and the meetings are run by the Scouts, with adult guidance.
  • We have dedicated and involved Adult Leaders.
    • All of our hands-on Adult Leaders are fully trained, having completed BSA Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoutmaster Leader Specific Training, and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.  Three of our Adult Leaders have also completed the advanced BSA Wood Badge leadership training course.
  • We are supported by an active Troop Committee.
    • Our Troop Committee meets every month, and handles the Troop's finances, fundraising, advancement coordination, and the facilitation of activities.

What We Do

  • We meet every Tuesday evening during the school year.
  • We go camping every month.
    • Our May campout is typically a "Spring Trip" to a destination that's historical and educational, such as Washington DC, Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Boston, or Baltimore.
    • We usually schedule summer and winter backpacking trips in the Adirondack Mountains, where we hike and climb some of the 46 Adirondack High Peaks.
    • Most of our Scouts go to Summer Camp every year.
  • Our Scouts advance.
    • Troop 236 is one of the Top 10 troops in the Council for advancement.
    • Many of our Scouts earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
  • We provide Service to the community.
    • We regularly participate in Lumberjack Day and/or Gopher Day at Camp Tuscarora.
    • Some of our Scouts have served as camp staff at Tuscarora Scout Reservation.
    • Eagle Projects performed by our Scouts have benefited local community organizations such as Kopernik Observatory, Finch Hollow Nature Center, Mom's House, and the Magic Paintbrush Project.
  • We Have Fun.
    • During some of our campouts, we go cross-country skiing, whitewater rafting, geocaching, snowshoeing, or participate in high-ropes courses.
    • Every four years, some of our Scouts attend the BSA National Jamboree.
    • We occasionally schedule excursions to BSA National High Adventure Bases, such as Philmont Scout Ranch or Florida Sea Base.
    • Some of our Troop Meetings involve off-site activities, such as bowling nights, swimming at the Maine-Endwell pool, or tours of the Binghamton Regional Airport, the Broome County Jail, or the Endwell Fire Station.
